Moving Mom…a senior moves into her new Piedmont Gardens apartment

Last week my team had the pleasure of being hired to move an Oakland senior from her home of 40+ years in the hills, to Piedmont Gardens senior living community.  Even though she has a large family and friends to lend support, she decided that leaving the move to a professional organizer would allow everyone to relax.  So, All Things Home Organizing™ planned and executed her entire move.

We started by meeting with the client, and her family/friends who wanted to participate, and we created a plan that calendared in the moving events.  I worked with the client sorting through her favorite possessions, then the team carefully packed – she wanted to take all her important china and glass pieces, so there was a lot of packing. I  created a floor plan for the new apartment using all her existing furniture. On moving day, we supervised the movers and in the new apartment, completely unpacked and put everything away in an organized manner.

If you are helping your parents move, keep in mind that moving is stressful and chaotic.  Planning and organizing the move will save you countless sleepless nights.  Make sure you know the moving “rules” for the senior community and that your moving company will honor their requests.  Schedule all utilities, including phone and cable so that they are there on day one of the move.  Be sure that bookcases and display cases are bolted down before you begin unpacking and putting things away.
